Principal's Welcome

Principal's Welcome

Dear Families & Friends of Playa del Rey,

I would like to warmly welcome you to Playa del Rey Elementary School website.

As the proud principal of Playa del Rey, I must tell you our school is a wonderful place for students to begin their journey of a well-rounded education. PDR is currently the home of approximately 280 students in TK-5th grade with a pre-school special day program. Our students are a part of a diverse population that serves all learners. We earned  the Title 1 High Achievement for 3 consecutive years, School for Advanced Studies recognition for the past 5 years, CA Honor Roll and a CA Distinguished School.

Our staff is truly committed to providing a strong education for all our students. The work we provide our students is challenging in all academic areas. We integrate the arts/science/with project-based learning for every student. Our enrichment includes music, visual arts, drama, instrumental and garden education. With support of our parents and community partnerships many students receive programs to enhance the arts, culture and learning experiences beyond the classroom.

We emphasize and support the six character values of social emotional learning: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, TRUSTWORTHINESS, CITIZENSHIP, FAIRNESS AND CARING. Our staff works hard to develop scholars by building caring and supportive relations. All students participate in various community service projects and leadership activities. Grades 3-5 participate in student council, grades play mediators and  volunteer with the K-Kids organization and our Garden Angels program.

Many of our parents are actively involved at PDR. Beyond the fundraising efforts, parents come to volunteer, help coordinate school-wide activities before, during and after school. They are invaluable to our school community. We’re extremely proud of our teaching and support staff. They participate in professional development and state of the art training to enhance the curriculum. They along with our families make PDR a special place to be. So, please take the time to explore our website and come for an orientation/tour. Thank you for your interest in PDR!!!

We invite you to visit our beautiful campus at any time, but in the interim enjoy the virtual tour.

Sincerely,

Valencia Blue
