The Arts Program

Picture
Playa del Rey Elementary School is part of a nationally recognized, standards-based art education program. Students have access to dance, music, theatre and visual arts.
Dance- Dance is an integral part of society. As students dance, their creative abilities begin to suggest spontaneous movements as they improvise their responses to the music. Dance has been described as communication between soul and soul, expressing what is too deep and fine for words. Music -Existing in every culture and generation, music embodies the distinctly human need to organize sounds to express the dimensions of human feeling. Theater-Theater is a collaborative art that enhances communication and is accessible for all students. Through their experiences with drama, students develop their imaginations and their confidence. Visual Arts-Through the visual arts, images become part of language, building on a child's natural inclination to communicate. Painting, drawing, sculpture and other visual art forms are a kind of talking about life.
